A Filipino broadcaster of a government-run radio station plans to file charges against the governor of Kalinga province for allegedly attacking and threatening to kill him. Kalinga is approximately 317 kilometers north of Manila.

The Centre for Independent Journalism (CIJ) Malaysia is disappointed at the sequence of events that has led to the resignation of Mohamed Ha'ta Wahari as National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Malaysia president on 31 May 2011. Ha'ta reportedly said that he has resigned following the NUJ executive council's decision that he could no longer be president since he was dismissed from "Utusan Malaysia".

Unidentified men threw homemade explosives at a government-run radio station in Tabuk City in Kalinga province on 24 May 2011. The attack is believed to be in retaliation for the station's reports and commentaries on the proliferation of the illegal numbers game known as "jueteng" in the province. Kalinga is a province approximately 317 km north of Manila.

 

SEAPA Alert: Singapore court rejects British author’s appeal

British author Alan Shadrake, who wrote a controversial book on the Singapore judiciary, has lost his appeal before the country’s Court of Appeal on 27 May 2011, media reports said.
