SEAPA finds today’s announcement of the postponement of the verdict on the case of Ms. Chiranuch Premchaiporn unexpected: it is highly unusual for a court verdict to be postponed, and certainly unanticipated on our part.

CMFR/PHILIPPINES - The station manager of a Mindanao radio station claims that a former policeman accused in the murder of broadcaster Dennis Cuesta has ordered the killing of Cuesta’s widow and two others including himself.

CMFR/ Philippines – Police have yet to identify the suspects in the ambush of a radio blocktimer and barangay (village) council chairman last 8 April 2012 in Davao City. Davao City is approximately 978 kilometers south of Manila.

CMFR/ Philippines – The Olongapo City police director allegedly attacked and barred a reporter from covering a hostage-taking incident last 3 April 2012. But the police director denied the accusation. Olongapo City is 79 kilometers west of Manila.

Laotian state authorities abruptly cancelled in late January 2012 the permit of a popular call-in radio program without any public explanation.

“Talk of the News”, a program which aired over the Lao National Radio since November 2007, ended its broadcast on 27 January 2012 after it was apparently ordered off the air by the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
